PhD Student in Environmental Chemistry

Topic: Natural Toxins and Drinking Water Quality – From Source to Tap
Project title: Origin and release of cyanotoxins in surface water reservoirs (ESR6)

The PhD student hosted at the Dept. of Environmental Chemistry of the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research IDÆA-CSIC in Barcelona, Spain, will develop sensitive and robust analytical methods for the determination and research of cyanotoxins and their degradation products in water reservoirs. The PhD also will apply immunochemical methods for the high-throughput screening of cyanotoxins in surface water, and process water. The methods will be used to study the temporal and spatial variation in formation of cyanotoxins and degradation products in different regions of Europe.

Project title: Non-target screening of natural toxins in surface water reservoirs (ESR3)
 
The PhD student hosted at the Dept. of Environmental Chemistry of the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research IDÆA-CSIC in Barcelona, Spain, will develop sensitive and robust analytical LC-MS/MS methods for the investigation and determination of new congeners in groups of natural toxins in lake water and freshwater biota. Identification and occurrence of non-target natural toxins will be determined by high resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS). The methods will be used to screen the presence of natural toxins in water and freshwater biota from water reservoirs along climate gradients in Europe.
