After five years in charge of the direction of the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research (IDAEA-CSIC), the researcher Teresa Moreno transfers her position to Dr. Ethel Eljarrat. Under the direction of Dr. Moreno, the center achieved the ‘Severo Ochoa’ Accreditation of Excellence, which positioned the center to be one of the best environmental research institutes at the national and international levels and improved the dynamic of the center.

“These five years have been very intense. With the Severo Ochoa Excellence, we developed different strategic lines and Committees to improve the research and well-being of the work at the center. Being IDAEA’s director is a great experience, and I wish the best to Ethel in these upcoming years”, declares Teresa Moreno.

From her period as director, Teresa Moreno also highlights the success of the Synergy Projects Committee, which has successfully promoted collaboration between different groups to carry out multidisciplinary and more ambitious projects.

Now, Ethel Eljarrat takes the lead of IDAEA for the next four years addressing two main goals:

  • Scientific excellence: by consolidating the excellent research at the center to achieve more ambitious objectives with greater impact and relevance. While continuity will be given to the projects focused on the assessment of environmental problems, new objectives aimed at finding solutions to those problems will be promoted.
  • Knowledge transfer: by activating channels to increase the knowledge transfer to key stakeholders, not only the industry but also public administrations and society. These actions will contribute to progressing toward sustainable development and a planet based on the OneHealth concept.
