Miguel Cañedo-Argüelles starts his secondment today at the ERC Executive Agency. | Iria Sambruno

Ecologist and researcher at the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research (IDAEA-CSIC), Miguel Cañedo-Argüelles has been selected as a Seconded National Expert at the European Research Council Executive Agency (ERCEA), the body in charge of the day-to-day management and implementation of activities for the EU’s premier scientific research funding organisation, the ERC.

During his secondment in Brussels, which starts today and will last for two years (renewable up to a maximum of six), Cañedo-Argüelles will be part of the ERC support team responsible for coordinating the central management of calls for proposals and thematic evaluation panels.

His duties will include drafting guidelines for applicants and reviewers, coordinating the logistics of evaluations, and supporting the steering committee that oversees the calls. He will also be involved in assessing the real-world impact of funded projects, advising on strategic priorities, and strengthening communication with other European institutions.
