Alberto Cruz Alcalde

Description

Alberto Cruz is a Chemical Engineer (Polytechnic University of Catalonia, 2014) with a MSc in Environmental Engineering (2016) and a PhD in Environmental Chemical Engineering (2019), both from the University of Barcelona. In 2020 he was granted a Juan de la Cierva fellowship and currently works as a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research (IDAEA-CSIC). His research experience and interests focus on the study of chemical and photochemical oxidation and disinfection in the context of drinking water and wastewater treatment, particularly on the kinetic and mechanistic characterization of these processes and the transfer of molecular-level knowledge to large-scale applications. Intensification of these processes and their integration with other treatment technologies (e.g., adsorption, biodegradation, membranes) also fall within the scope of his research. Dr. Cruz has in addition a great interest in studying the occurrence and fate of micropollutants in the aquatic environment and engineered systems. His postdoctoral work at IDAEA combines lab-scale experiments and field studies with the use of advanced LC-MS techniques.
