IDAEA-CSIC is looking for a motivated predoctoral researcher to work on the analysis of environmental contaminants in water, combining field sampling, instrumental analysis and data processing, within the framework of the research project INTENT (Integrated analytical and chemometric approaches for comprehensive environmental chemical assessment).

The candidate will participate in sampling campaigns using passive samplers, sample preparation and instrumental analysis using high-resolution mass spectrometry and complementary analytical techniques. The work will focus on the detection and characterisation of environmental contaminants, microplastics and their associated additives, as well as their degradation and biotransformation products. The candidate will also work on the processing and interpretation of the resulting data, applying multivariate analysis methods to obtain a more comprehensive understanding of the chemical composition of environmental samples.

What do we look for?

Qualifications

Master’s degree in Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Sciences or a related discipline, providing eligibility for admission to a PhD programme.

Professional experience

Previous research experience is not required. Experience in environmental analysis, sample preparation, instrumental analysis or data processing will be considered an asset.

Competences

Interest in environmental analytical chemistry and the study of contaminants. Ability to work in a team, organise experimental work and interpret scientific results. Motivation to learn new analytical techniques and data analysis methods. Knowledge of mass spectrometry, environmental sampling, chemometrics or programming will be an advantage.

Other requirements

Good written and spoken English. Ability to communicate scientific results and prepare reports.

Working conditions

Contract duration: Up to 4 years (predoctoral contract through the FPI programme)

Estimated annual gross salary: According to the applicable predoctoral salary scale (FPI programme).
