Summary

The global bioplastics market is growing continuously. However, there are some unknowns regarding their distribution once reach the environment. There is an urgent need for: (i) characterizing the environmental fate and behaviour of residues of the new generation of plastics based on biopolymers; (ii) identifying if their chronic occurrence can cause environmental damages; and, finally, (iii) providing a set of actions to minimize future impacts if it is shown to be required.
DEGBIOPLAST is focused in the characterization of microbioplastics fate and behaviour in the environment at physical, chemical and biological levels.
