Azam Safarnejad

Postdoc Researcher

Summary

Azam Safarnejad (Tabriz, Iran) is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at IDAEA-CSIC, working in the Chemometrics for Environmental Omics research group under the Horizon Europe MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship.

She holds a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry (Chemometrics) from the Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences (IASBS), Zanjan, Iran (2023). Her doctoral research focused on multivariate quantification of mixtures using nanomaterial-based sensor arrays, integrating innovative sensing strategies for applications in food safety and environmental monitoring. She also specialized in hyperspectral imaging and chemometric modeling for forensic analysis of inks and questioned documents, combining advanced analytical techniques with multivariate data analysis for authenticity assessment. During her Ph.D., she completed a six-month sabbatical at Ankara University, Turkey, in the Analytical Chemistry Group of the Faculty of Pharmacy, focusing on electrochemical analysis.

Her research interests include chemometrics, hyperspectral image analysis, nanomaterials, and optical chemical sensors. She has published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at international conferences. In her current postdoctoral project, she investigates the molecular effects of commonly used pesticides on rice through integrated transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics, aiming to advance molecular-level understanding of plant responses to environmental stress and contribute to sustainable agricultural practices.
