Edoardo Barbieri is an Italian predoctoral student at the Department of Environmental Chemistry at the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research IDAEA-CSIC in Barcelona (Spain).
He obtained a Bachelor’s degree In Chemistry and Technologies for the Environment and Materials under the University of Bologna; subsequently, he was awarded a scholarship grant from the European Union to study in a joint master’s degree program in Environmental Contamination and Toxicology in Belgium (Université de Liège), Svalbard (Norwegian University of Science and Technology-UNIS) and Spain (Universidad del País Vasco).
He graduated in 2022 with a master’s thesis regarding the phytoremediative properties of Cannabis sativa in heavy metal-polluted soils, developed in collaboration with the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece).
He is now carrying out his PhD research involving the effect of Contaminants of Emerging Concern (CECs) on the marine microalgae Tetraselmis suecica, with the help of analytical techniques such as spectrophotometry, flow cytometry, High-resolution mass spectrometry, high and ultra-high pressure liquid chromatography.
