PhD Student

Summary

Maria-Sofia Kapiri holds a BSc in Geology and Geoenvironment and an MSc in Micropalaeontology-Geobiology. She is currently pursuing her PhD at IDAEA-CSIC and MARUM, focusing on palaeoceanography and palaeoclimatology, with particular emphasis on reconstructing past climate and environmental variability in the Mediterranean and Iberian region.

Her research focuses on the analysis of marine sedimentary archives and the application of geochemical, molecular and palaeoenvironmental proxies to investigate past climate variability, extreme events and abrupt environmental changes. As part of her PhD, she also applies Mass Spectrometry Imaging (MSI), particularly MALDI-FT-ICR-MS, to obtain high-resolution molecular information from sedimentary archives.

Her PhD is part of the IBCC-Shack project (Iberian Climate Change Paleoarchive – Shackleton legacy for the climate unknowns ahead), and she is also a key participant in the PAGES PaleoIMAGING Working Group
