Summary

Marta Casado (B.Sc. in Chemical Sciences and M.Sc. in Chemistry) High Scientific Officer of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). Head of the Environmental Toxicogenomics Service.

I am an environmental toxicologist with expertise in assessing the biological effects of environmental contaminants and complex mixtures in both cellular and whole-organism models. I am focused on understanding toxicological responses through gene expression analyses (real-time PCR, next-generation sequencing) and metabolomics approaches (NMR and UPLC-MS). I have also been actively involved in the study of the occurrence and dissemination of bacterial antibiotic resistance genes in different environmental matrices, and in assessing the impact of water treatment technologies on bacterial communities in water and soil.

To support the advancement of toxicological studies at the single-cell level using omics technologies, the Service has recently expanded its infrastructure with a high-resolution mass spectrometer, equipped with a nano-injection system, and a flow cytometer with cell-sorting capabilities. I oversee the operation of the latter, provide user training, and lead the development and implementation of novel applications. I am a member of the Catalan Association of Cytometrists (CitoCat)

I have co-authored 44 peer-reviewed scientific publications (h-index = 19)

Beyond my research activities, I participated in science outreach and educational engagement programmes aimed at secondary school students and I currently contribute to the MAGNET programme, which promotes partnerships between research institutions and schools to improve educational outcomes.
