PhD Student

Summary

Ana González-Ruiz holds a BSc in Chemistry from the University of La Laguna and an MSc in Food Safety from the University of Barcelona. She is currently a PhD candidate in Biomedicine at Rovira i Virgili University, conducting her research in collaboration with the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research (IDAEA-CSIC) under the supervision of Dr Montse Marquès and Dr Pablo Gago-Ferrero. Her doctoral research explores the role of the chemical exposome in adverse health outcomes during pregnancy.

Her work combines human biomonitoring, liquid chromatography coupled with high-resolution mass spectrometry and statistical analysis to investigate exposure to environmental contaminants. She studies complementary biological matrices, including urine, serum, umbilical cord tissue and placenta, to characterise prenatal exposure, spatial variability within the placenta and fetal transfer; and has also investigated chemical exposure in alternative matrices, such as hair, for assessing chemical exposure. Her research contributions include publications in Environmental Science & Technology and Talanta, as well as oral and poster presentations at international scientific conferences. She has also contributed to university teaching, co-supervision of undergraduate and master’s theses and science communication.
