Summary

My research lies at the intersection of environmental and molecular epidemiology, with the overarching goal of understanding how the environment we live in and the food we eat shape metabolic health across the life course. I use a multidisciplinary approach that combines advanced exposure modeling methods with high-dimensional biological (“omics”) data to uncover the metabolic effects of pervasive environmental exposures and their underlying pathophysiological mechanisms. My contributions have been recognized through several competitive awards and fellowships, including the Ramón y Cajal Fellowship, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship, Juan de la Cierva-Incorporación Fellowship, and Beatriu de Pinós Fellowship (renounced). My research has been published in leading including Nature Communications, JAMA Pediatrics, and Hepatology. I currently lead a research program at IDAEA focused on the exposome and cardiometabolic disease. A central ambition of this work is to move beyond identifying risk factors toward precision environmental health by understanding when, how, and in whom pervasive environmental stressors matter most. Ultimately, my goal is to translate this knowledge into actionable evidence that can support earlier prevention and more effective environmental health strategies.
