Asadulla Hil Galib is a Chemical Engineer with a strong academic background in biomaterials, environmental analytical chemistry, and ecotoxicology. Raised in a small agricultural town near Dhaka—one of the most polluted cities in the world—he witnessed firsthand widespread ecosystem disruption and environmental degradation, which sparked his dedication to environmental research and public health.
After earning his Bachelor’s degree in Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Galib moved to the United States as a U.S. Department of State–funded student, where he studied Agricultural Wastewater Management. In 2021, he was awarded the prestigious Erasmus Mundus scholarship from the European Commission to pursue a joint Master’s degree in Environmental Contamination and Toxicology at Université de Bordeaux (France) and Universidad del País Vasco (Spain). Galib completed research internships at the Institute of Chemistry and Biology of Membranes and Nano-objects (CBMN, Bordeaux) and Plentzia Marine Station (Spain), where he worked on multi-residue analysis and ecotoxicological assays—including YES bioassays, embryo-larval toxicity, and Microtox tests—to evaluate contaminants in wastewater. For his Master’s thesis, he investigated the degradation of discarded fishing gear and the release of micro- and nanoplastics and additives from plastic debris on the Bay of Biscay coastline.
In 2024, he joined the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research (IDAEA-CSIC) as a predoctoral researcher within the Pharm-ERA Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network. His PhD research aims to develop an innovative Effect-Directed Analysis (EDA) framework using natural freshwater biofilms as sensitive and ecologically relevant indicators. By integrating microbial responses with advanced analytical techniques such as LC-HRMS/MS, the project seeks to identify bioactive and potentially harmful compounds that may drive ecological disruption and antimicrobial resistance. His work will contribute to the advancement of chemical monitoring strategies and environmental risk assessment methodologies.
